I’m Lindsay, a researcher, professor & design strategist, whose interests lie at the intersection of humans, emotions & technology. As we move into the age of affective AI (chatbots & agents), I want to figure out what a mutually symbiotic relationship between emotions and digital technologies looks like.

I’ve spent the last decade as a user researcher, investigating how people navigate emotional attachments to each other and to technology in order to build ~emotionally aware~ products. I’ve mainly worked on dating apps (OkCupid), digital media (NYT) and public health (HHS, NYC). I started out my career in civic tech, at The Sunlight Foundation; I’m still an advocate & public interest technologist at heart.

Now, I run my own research consultancy (site under construction); I help clients understand how users feel for & about their products. I also am a Visiting Assistant Professor at Pratt’s School of Information, where I teach Emotional Design and Advanced UX Research Methods.

Brooklyn, NY is my home, where you’ll find me riding a bike, doing local trash clean-ups & slinging bread at the Park Slope Food Co-op.
